A Kansas notary who wishes to electronically notarize documents will be required to take an electronic notary course, take and pass the exam, register with the Secretary of State and receive a digital certificate that is authorized by the Secretary of State. When the electronic notary does an electronic notarization the notary must use a digital signature. The notary certificate needs to be attached to or logically associated with the electronic document. The notary should notarize the document only if the signer is present at the time.
